Fashion is a creative craft, a continually evolving business, and a globalized manufacturing industry. In this webinar we shall briefly examine how this three different but tightly intertwined aspects of Fashion are impacted by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) put forth by the United Nations to achieve a "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs", i.e., a Sustainable Development.
From the design point of view, we shall address how key principles, such as thinking in terms of systems, dematerialization, optimization, using renewable, natural materials and harmless substances and processes, and considering cradle-to-cradle cycles should help create and develop products that have longevity and purpose, are part of a service, are easy disassembled, of low maintenance and can be re-used, refurbished and recycled.
We shall also briefly examine how proactive communication, the birth of novel business models and changes to the way in which we manufacture, distribute, commercialize and use the garments are positively impacting the sustainability of the whole Fashion enterprise
