1. Design Works Studies and Applications
Principles of Design
Creating original and unique concepts, methodology and design ideas used for sources of inspiration and creating themes, collecting and archiving information and materials to complement design processes are among the topics covered. In this course, the student keeps a visual diary, which serves as a visual archive. The purpose of this visual diary is to provide an archive by which the student can follow the progress of his/her own ideas.
Design Research and Development
Design education that begins with principles of design, continues with a research and development process, where the student learns experimental methods such as textile surface and printmaking. With this course, the student will concentrate on experimental works in the context of design research, and will turn this approach into a habit. In this process, the student also explores the cultural development of fashion and historical approaches to fashion. The student uses the perspective acquired at this stage in creating new sources of inspiration for developing designs.
Collection Planning and Development
As part of this unit’s design process, a product is developed using three-dimensional methods. Market, consumer, and material dynamics for this product are considered while carrying out the collection planning and development. The project undertaken in this unit constitutes a final project and the student applies all the technical skills acquired into this collection-planning project.
Design Application Projects; Design and Industry Projects
The projects are a part of IMA’s work-based education. The projects provide opportunities to experience the process, from design to production and sales, under the guidance of professionals and designers from the sector. The projects teach students the principles of designing for a brand, using colours and forms, creating collections for target markets or customers. With the help of these projects, students adopt the habit of working with project briefs that are prepared according to real market dynamics.
