This is an introductory level course aimed at individuals interested in fashion design and would like to develop their sewing skills and/or gain technical knowledge on sewing using various sewing machines.

Content:

  • Getting to know the Machines and Utilization Practice (Straight stitch, Over locking, Covering Stitch) 
  • Sewing in Machines (Straight stitch, Over locking, Covering Stitch)
    • Assembly Techniques
    • Overcast stitch Techniques (Over locking, Blind Stitch, Facing Seam, Piping, Hemstitch)
  • Standard Skirt Sewing in Original Pattern 
    • Dart Seam
    • Simple Zipper Seam
    • Belt Seam
  • Intermediate and Final Presser Operations

Instructor: Leyla Özdemir. Following her training in Textile and Ready-wear field, Özdemir worked at various education institutions as instructor, administrator, academic and education coordinator respectively. She has held the office of Education Coordinator at Istanbul Textile and Ready-wear Exporter Unions (İTKİB) as well as Education and Production Coordinator at Istanbul Ready-wear and Garment Industry (İHKİB) Schools, planning sector trainings and training courses for vocational school teachers. As Education Coordinator at İTKİB, she participated in the preparation and application of joint training programs with Ministry of National Education General Directorate of Vocational Technical Education. Since 2008, she has represented Ministry of National Education (MEB) and Vocational Qualification Institute Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) in the sector committee of Garment, Ready-wear and Leather industry. Leyla Özdemir, who has played an active role in the foundation of İMA, is currently the school principle, where she also teaches design application, pattern making and draping.
