FASHION DESIGN
Fashion Design training, from idea to product, takes you on a creative journey, which lets you focus on your areas of interest, feeds your distinctive potential, and supports your research skills, continuity of your growth, and your communication with the sector.
The programme, which includes all the processes of fashion design from sources of inspiration to creating collections, enables you to combine your creative and visual skills with technology. It helps you relate to the sector by following the developments in the fashion industry.
The projects that you will undertake throughout the programme will help you gain an understanding about all the design processes - from initial research for designs to experimental design analyses, from simplification and choosing a design idea to composing theme boards with fabric and colour selections.
Basic drawing techniques training, offered at different stages of the programme, supports freehand drawing skills and helps you improve your personal portfolio presentation style.
This foundation-level programme is open to those who are not experienced in fashion design, but want to improve themselves in this field, or those who are actively working in the sector and want to build a strong foundation in the field. Students who complete this programme can find their own places in the industry.
The first year of the programme focuses on technical studies, in order to form the infrastructure of Fashion Design. Throughout the term, these studies are supported by a project, surface development projects, and projects in 2D works and 3D design process, created with the principle of improvement.
n the second year, as students improve their technical skills, they also become able to conduct situation analyses with the contributions of the industry. Having the chance to work with professionals, they develop industrial projects where they can have a closer look at the methods used in the industry. Furthermore, they work closely with designers and develop design projects. They also engage in exhibition projects, geared towards observation and research that will help develop their cultural and artistic development.
PROGRAMME CONTENT
Drawing Techniques
The programme conveys principles of drawing and offers freehand drawing and pattern exercises, which will help the student visually reflect his/her ideas to the application. It aims to improve fashion sketches with exercises in human anatomy figure drawings and figure drawings in movement. Moreover, it helps improvement in areas such as using light, colour, and colour harmonies with different materials; transferring fabric textures to paper by applying painting techniques; dressing models; and collection drawings.
Design Development and Application
You will learn about sources of inspiration for creating an imaginative and authentic concept, comprehend the methodology used for creating a theme and generating design ideas, conduct research to support the design processes, and learn to collect and archive information and materials. The topics also include presentation of developed ideas, keeping a visual diary, forming story, colour, and fabric boards.
Collection Planning and Development
While applying design research and development methods, you comprehend the collection planning methods. Departing from a specified theme, you use this design process as the main foundation of developing your collection. You understand how issues such as trends, materials, detail, production, technique, and target group in this process affect the coherence of the collection. The projects give you the opportunity to put the design development process into practice.
Draping Techniques
You learn to develop models by using basic draping techniques. In order to support the development of novel creative ideas, you learn the 3D working method and, in particular, learn to use it as a tool in creating designs. Moreover, you work on adapting the model created by draping method into a pattern.
Pattern and Sewing Techniques
Based on basic pattern techniques; principles of pattern cutting and model development, creating two-dimensional patterns, preparing prototypes, fitting and sewing techniques are taught. These techniques, complemented by applied projects, improve the student’s ability to independently develop and apply models.
Fashion Marketing
In this section, we cover topics such as grasping the dynamics of fashion, understanding the functioning of the industry and the business world, marketing principles, target group analysis, positioning, market research methods, coordination of design and management teams.
Photoshop and Illustrator
You learn to make designs in digital media using the Photoshop and Illustrator software,to form a collection theme and preparerelevant story boards and colour boards,to preparecolour variations by developing pattern-print selections, and also to do detailed model drawing and dressing.
The working principles of and differences in working with the pixel-based Photoshop software and vector-based Illustrator software are conveyed; tools for advanced drawing, painting, effects and arranging images for both software are taught; and professional drawing sheets with detailed artistic and technical drawings are prepared.
Designer Projects and Industrial Projects
These projects constitute the best examples of hands-on training, which is the key element of this programme. Through these projects, the student grasps how to work with a real design brief, what to pay attention to while managing this process, and learns to view the fashion industry both from a freelance designer and a brand designer perspectives.
You will have the opportunity to experience the process, from design to production and sales, under the guidance of sector professionals and designers. You will learn about the principles of designing for a brand, using colours and forms, working on collections geared towards a specific target group and customers.
Final Collection and Portfolio
During the final term of the programme, you apply all the skills you have acquired into creating a final collection. Through this collection, you develop and realize your designs departing from your source of inspiration, which you are entirely free to choose. You will be able to add to your portfolio, which you have prepared by developing all your work, a collection that reflects your identity. This collection will be an important tool for the student to present his/her talents to the industry.
When you complete the programme, you present and promote all the projects that you have completed throughout the training and your final project with an extensive exhibition to the sector’s leading companies, designers, and media representatives.

In this unit, you will learn about the past and present of fashion, contemporary fashion consumer behaviours and future consumer trends, fashion-based positioning, marketing mix, market research and surveys, latest trends in fashion marketing, Internet and social media, personalized customer experience, experimental marketing concepts; and you learn to use these as part of a marketing plan.
Fashion Brand Management
You learn about brand concept and brand management in the fashion industry, supply chains of brands, production planning, management of all production processes and operations.
Fashion Retail and Product Management
You learn about fashion retail management and positioning, product management in merchandising (purchasing and merchandising), management of retailers, profitability, retail arithmetic, and conducting store location analysis.
Communication and Visual Merchandising in Fashion
You acquaint yourself with the brand communication concepts that are central to fashion brand management. You learn about the concept of visuality, visual merchandising basics, use of space, display window design, creating experimental sales space, and product presentation.
Financial Planning
You will learn about the financial structure and identity of the sector, to evaluate its place within the over all economic structure, financial analyses, sales management and control, and budgeting.
Human Resources Management and Career Planning
You are trained in human resources management, forming teams, changing and improving current management approaches, and career planning concepts.
General Knowledge and Culture of Fashion
You will acquaint yourself with fabric, fibres, design process concepts, and changes and trends in fashion. The general knowledge and culture of fashion courses are enriched with the participation and presentations of fashion designers.
Industry Project
Under the supervision of BÜYEM and IMA instructors, you undertake a group project, tackling a current problem of a company in the sector. You support the project with research and observations before presenting the project.

The structure of commerce in fashion retail gets increasingly complicated due to the intense competition. In order to increase their productivity in the global competition and to rapidly respond to changing customer behaviours and growing customer demands, retail companies are in need of well-equipped managers.
The Fashion Retail; Merchandising and Buying Programme is established to meet retail companies’ Merchandising, Purchasing, and Product Management departments’ need for managers. In this programme, attended by those who wish to take part in product management of fashion retail, you learn about merchandising and purchasing practices of international standards,undertake theoretical and practical projects on retail operation and product management processes, and follow how the latest practices and trends of the sector reflect on the fashion retail sector in Turkey.
This programme targets individuals, who are trained in fashion, marketing, or management and who want to enter the fashion retail sector, or who work in the retail sector and/or want to improve themselves in merchandising or purchasing fields of fashion retail.

Fashion Retail; Merchandising and Buying
The overall structure of the fashion retail sector and the development of the sector, an overview of merchandising processes, the role of the purchasing agent and his/her place in product management, the role of the merchandiser and his/her place in product management, purchasing cycle and calendar, merchandise planning processes, purchasing and merchandising aimed at multi-branded and concept stores, case analysis, and market research are subjects covered in this unit.
General Knowledge and Culture of Fashion
In this unit, fashion consumer behaviours and future consumer trends, market and competitor analyses are covered. General knowledge and culture of fashion courses are enhanced by the participation of professional managers from the retail sector.
Supply Chain Management
Supply policies and roles, supply planning, design, purchasing, logistic and product distribution processes, inventory/sales tracking and management are included in this unit.
Industry Project
A group project on a topic determined by a company in the sector is carried out by trainees. This project, which is presented by the trainee, is complemented by research and studies about the company. You learn all the key concepts of product management such as product range and price planning in merchandising, planning, and purchasing; definitions (model, option, SKU); store layout plan; in-season planning; process KPIs; WSSI; GMROI; inventory turnover rate, and the like.

VISUAL MERCHANDISING
In this programme, the effect and importance of visual merchandising and shop window design on the brand image will be emphasized. You will undertake applied projects in interior arrangements and window designs and build a theoretical background on these subjects. You will also establish a strong foundation in general knowledge and culture of fashion, marketing, and retail.
This basic-level programme is open to those who have experience in visual sales, visual brand management, visual store design, or in a similar line of business, and wish to improve themselves, those who want to enter the field of visual merchandising, and individuals who aim to increase their business productivity by learning about visual merchandising (store owners, sales team members who are in charge of visuals, store managers, store coordinators, etc.).

General Knowledge and Culture of Fashion
As well as studying fashion trends from past to present, you learn about the processes of how styles and trends emerge. You enhance your general knowledge and culture by examining examples of visual merchandising and window design on in the international platform.
Fashion Marketing and Communications
You learn about the basics of fashion marketing, current marketing trends, and customer behaviours. You explore the role of visual merchandising in brand image and brand communication.
Fashion Retail
You learn about the present trends and structure of the retail sector, its dynamics in Turkey and in the international platform, and expand your vision regarding this field.
Visual Merchandising Basics
You examine a store in all key areas of Visual Merchandising such as concept and brand identity compatibility, visual arrangement, use of space, lighting, and shop window.
You form a theoretical background in basic art knowledge, basic techniques of visual merchandising, management of space, in-store and display window arrangement techniques, display techniques for different categories and special days; and you have the chance to enhance your background with hands-on projects.
Project
At the end of the programme, you will undertake a final project under the supervision of the instructors. You will complete the final project, carry out its application, and present it to the instructors and consultants.

FASHION MEDIA
Writing about fashion often means dictating fashion... It requires a background about fashion’s relationship to visual arts, the language used in fashion, basic creative writing techniques, cultural interpretation and conceptual expression of fashion trends...
Looking at the Turkish and the world media from a wide perspective, this programme is composed to meet the need for training in the fashion media sector. It will provide a strong background for becoming a fashion editor and a fashion communication expert.
This basic-level programme includes projects and hands-on applications in collaboration with fashion magazines. The programme is open to graduates fashion and communication, or individuals who are interested in the communication, publishing, and writing aspects of fashion and wish to become a fashion editor.

History of Fashion, General Knowledge and Culture on Media
An overview of the worlds of fashion and media, dynamics of the fashion press in Turkey and in the world, media’s impact on fashion, history of fashion and design, reflections of historical and cultural effects on contemporary fashion, and fashion cycle are the subjects covered in this programme. Moreover, factors affecting fashion and trends, research methods, different magazine and reader profiles, and symbolic meanings in clothes are explored.
Fashion Writing
You learn how to use language effectively in conveying to the reader the results of research conducted in the field of fashion. You also learn about writing techniques for different media and gain hands-on experience in press releases, interview techniques, fashion show and collection reporting, newspaper and magazine writing, and blog writing.
Styling
Includes editorial styling, still life styling, styling applications, preparation of storyboards and mood boards, image composition teachings, and fashion photography shooting applications.
Editor
This unit informs you about issues related to management organization and operation in media, such as the editorial department, copyrights and legal obligations, the role and duties of the editor. It also covers the processes of publishing a new magazine, including market, target reader group evaluation, positioning the magazine, determining the theme and the concept, and budget management. Furthermore, you learn about the processes of preparing the magazine such as content planning, creative page management, cover design, and selection criteria.
At the end of the programme, participants publish their own magazine, gaining hands-on experience about the dynamics of creating a magazine from scratch.

STYLING
Styling consists of much more than simply bringing clothing items together... When you acquire good organizational and communicational skills, creative intuition, an eye for design, knowledge about contemporary trends, and the skill to combine all these, then an exciting and sought-after career path awaits you. Fashion, media, publishing, film, advertising, organization, and retail industries are just a few among the lines of business available.
The programme, which starts with general knowledge and culture of media, history of fashion, and basic principles of photography, offers knowledge about editorial styling, advertising styling, and image consulting. Students will carry out projects in collaboration with prominent fashion magazines in order to put this knowledge into practice. As you complete your training, the photo-shoots, which you will perform with the participation of a professional photographer, will provide you with new images that you can add to your portfolio.
The programme is open to all individuals who are interested in fashion and wish to improve themselves about styling.

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY
Turn your photographs into professional images...
Experience all the processes of fashion photography with technique, lighting, studio, set, concept, models, hair styling, make-up, venue selection, and fashion shootings...
The training takes place at the fully equipped photography studio of Istanbul Moda Academy. The programme begins with basic photography training and examines studio and fashion photography with the help of hands-on workshops, studio and outdoor fashion shoots, and cultural projects along with theoretical training; thus preparing you with the knowledge and skills to be able to create your own projects.
The programme is open to those who want to enter the fashion photography sector, or those who have experience in the sector but want to specialize in fashion photography by learning about studio photography. It provides opportunities for conducting professional photo-shoots with concept creation and styling applications.

Basic Principles of Photography
You learn about camera formats, light reading, shooting techniques, and photograph composition.
History of Photography
You learn about history of photography, history of fashion photography, contemporary art and current trends.
Studio and Outdoor Photography
You learn about studio equipment, light reading in the studio, portrait shoots in the studio, outdoor shooting techniques, and creating photography file formats.
Concept and Styling in Fashion Photography
You learn about creating concepts in fashion photography, preparing storyboards, and styling applications. Along with your theoretical training; the classroom practices, sector professionals contributing to the courses as visiting lecturers, and the group project to be completed at the end of the training will give you the opportunity to experience the industry and encounter the real dynamics of the fashion sector.
Photo-shoot Sessions

CREATIVE DRAPING TECHNIQUES
Three-dimensional pattern preparation techniques are applied in this creative process.
The aim of the programme is to enable you to create designs using creative draping techniques and develop them in line with some concepts. With this programme, you will improve your skills to prepare 3-dimensional patterns and to create and apply styles in line with trends. According to the themes given to you, you will work on models using draping techniques and transfer them into patterns. With this method, you will go beyond developing a design after a 2-dimensional sketch—you will be able to grasp the importance of transformation from 2-dimensional to 3-dimensional media in developing designs.
The programme is open to all who wish to complement their creativity with the ability to use draping techniques.
PROGRAMME CONTENT
Fabric Information
You learn basic fabric information and, in particular, learn to choose materials based on the qualities of fabrics and the effects they have on models.
Developing Models, Using Themes and Shapes
You work on developing a concept departing from a theme. You gather information about form, silhouette, shape, and volume for a model that is suitable for this theme. You archive this information and experience applying it on a model as you develop a design.
Developing Skirt, Body, Dress, and Neckline Models
Applying basic draping techniques, you can develop modern and extraordinary silhouettes on the model, and you learn the methods for adapting these silhouettes into patterns.
Draping and Developing Design on a Model
Examining a number of examples that were prepared using draping techniques, you understand what you can do with this method. You learn about how and to what extent draping is used in the industry for mass production and haute couture.
Design Project
At the end of the programme, you determine an independent theme and develop designs based on this theme. You complete the project by finalising the draping applications.

FASHION ILLUSTRATION
The Fashion Illustration programme aims to teach the ways to realize the image you have mentally created using the right techniques and guidance.
The programme is intended for those who wish to specialize in fashion design and to complement their drawing skills with the necessary technical infrastructure. While you learn about freehand drawing techniques, you also establish a strong foundation in technical drawing application methods in the fashion industry.
The programme is supplemented by hands-on projects and thus aims to support the learning process by letting the students apply the basic knowledge that they have acquired.
During the programme, students make drawings using the rules of freehand drawing, figure drawing, line, rhythm, balance, and perspective. Throughout the programme, students are informed about correct detailing in establishing communications between the design and production teams, technical drawing terminology, and understanding the applications in the industry. Furthermore, they are given the chance to put into practice the knowledge they have acquired in these fields.

Drawing Techniques
In this programme, students are engaged in freehand drawing and pattern exercises that help them express their ideas visually. Students are introduced to human anatomy, figure drawing and poses, and they can improve their figure drawing skills. Moreover, the programme includes topics such as using light, colour, and colour harmony; applying painting techniques by using different materials and representing fabric textures on paper; dressing models; and presenting collection drawings.
Technical Drawing
Communicating the design details effectively plays a significant role in obtaining a flawless outcome. This unit includes technical information about drawing clothing models, showing technical details flawlessly, preparing technical drawings for complex models, preparing template models and technical sheets. Students apply the techniques they have learned by preparing a mini collection project. In this unit, students learn the technical terminology for clothing and develop the skills to fully communicate technical terms visually.

This programme aims to teach you how to use Photoshop and Illustrator applications efficiently in the fashion and textile sector. Getting to Know and Using Photoshop
In the broadest sense, Photoshop is an image editing software based on rearranging and editing an image using cutting, cropping, copying, and colour mode tools.The software is used for a wide range of purposes and it is quite commonly used in the textile sector as well. In this programme, you learn to create visual presentations demonstrating collection themes, story and colour boards, digital collages, artistic drawings, print and pattern artwork with the help of advanced image editing tools, colour modes and effects.
Getting to Know and Using Illustrator
In the broadest sense, this software enables making flawless drawings with vectors and offers advanced drawing tools. It is frequently used in the textile and fashion sector for preparing professional technical drawing sheets. In this programme, you grasp how to use digital pen and tablets and achieve detailed and realistic technical drawings. You also learn to develop lifelike accessory, appliqué drawings, form print and embroidery designs, and create fabric patterns.
Preparing Visual Presentations
You can prepare visual presentations in the computer environment by bringing together images, photographs, fabrics, and accessories that support the specified collection theme.
Project Works
At the end of the programme, having improved your Photoshop and Illustrator skills, you will be able to present your ideas in the computer medium and prepare design sheets in a specified theme, with artistic and technical drawings that belong to your collection, supported by the in-class critiques and discussions.

FASHION BRAND MANAGEMENT IN INTERNATIONAL MARKETS
The purpose of the programme is to provide a general perspective on the industry’s main lines of business and the fashion sector’s standing in Turkey and in the world; and to convey the brand concept and the requirements of creating fashion brand value. The programme, which aims to offer the foundations of brand management in international markets and contemporary trends of fashion retail sector, consists of two parts that take place in Istanbul and London, with the collaboration of IMA and London College of Fashion. In the first part of the programme, contemporary trends of the retail sector, overall brand concept, creating brand value in fashion, and marketing strategies are emphasized. In the second part, which takes place in London at London College of Fashion, the issues covered include fashion brand management for international markets, getting to know the global customer, differentiating your brand, e-branding, and online business models. Moreover, London’s important retail areas are visited with the instructors in order to understand the sector better and to conduct on-site analyses and assessments. The programme ends with a project that gives the participants an opportunity to put into practice the knowledge they have acquired.
